Come join a judgment-free community of folks interested in exploring and honing their comedic skills. If you’re always told you should try stand-up, or that you’re the 'funny one' in the group, this class is for you. Together we’ll develop our individual comedic performance skills by writing and workshopping material for the stage.

Classes will include an intro to joke writing, comedic timing, storytelling, voice projection, and stage presence, improvisation, and stand-up 'do’s and don’ts' (never run the light!). We’ll have special guests drop in to share insights and wisdom from their experiences onstage, and of course, we’ll write and perform our jokes for the class.

The class will be lead by Kelowna comedian, Kate Belton. Kate has been performing stand-up comedy since 2015 when she started in Vancouver and instantly developed a love for the artform. Kate has performed in comedy clubs across the country, showcased at Yuk Yuk’s in Vancouver, and recorded her first comedy album in Winnipeg in October 2019. Kate hosts the popular Cool Ranch Comedy show at Fernando’s, which brings in headlining comedians from all over Canada.

Registration for this four-week program is $100, and covers all four classes in the series. Stand-Up Comedy runs Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 PM, January 18-February 8, in the SunFM Room at the RCA.

Please note that masks are mandatory throughout the RCA, including when taking classes in the SunFM Room. Patrons may only remove their masks temporarily, when actively eating or drinking.
